Children’s Audition Workshop

The Weekend Theater will hold an audition workshop for children — ages 6 to 18 — interested in auditioning for our mid-season musical, The Sound of Music, but the skills learned can be applied to any audition. The workshop will be held at The Weekend Theater, located at 1001 W. 7th Street, on the corner of Chester Street, in downtown Little Rock, AR, from 9am to 12pm on Saturday, November 15th; the cost is $5 per child. For more information, and to reserve your child’s spot in the workshop, call (501) 374-3761 or register online.

WORKSHOP SOLD OUT!

PLEASE COME TO THE SOUND OF MUSIC AUDITIONS!

The Workshop is completely full, and due to the tight production schedule at TWT between now and auditions, we cannot add another date.

But you should *definately* come to auditions no matter what.

Thank you so much for your interest and we hope to do more of these kinds of workshops in the future.

The Children’s Audition Workshop will help young performers become familiar with the audition process. They will have an opportunity to participate in a mock audition so that they know what to expect when the real thing comes along! Participants should wear comfortable clothes that they can move around in easily, and come prepared to have a great time! Parents are welcome to stay and observe. This workshop will focus on musical selections from The Sound of Music.

The Sound of Music will run February 13th through March 1st, 2015. Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, and Sunday afternoons at 2:30pm. Rehearsals will begin mid-January and be held Monday through Thursday evenings, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

This class will offer young actors a unique opportunity to learn the audition process from two of The Weekend Theater’s gifted directors, Matthew Mentgen and Ryan Whitfield. The class size is limited to 25, so reserve your child’s spot soon so as not to miss out!

Matthew_Mentgen_HeadshotMatthew Mentgen recently directed Caroline, or Change at The Weekend Theater. He was also the Musical Director for Baby and The 1940s Radio Hour Christmas Carol, and appeared as “Bob” in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, at The Community Theatre of Little Rock. In addition to directing, acting, and music, Matthew enjoys the technical side of theater. He has been the Set Designer for multiple shows at The Weekend Theater, including Blu, The Water Children, Joe Turner’s Come & Gone, and Tuesdays with Morrie.

Ryan_Whitfield_HeadshotRyan Whitfield has been working with The Weekend Theater since 2008, starring in various roles in shows like Southern Baptist Sissies, Good Boys and True, Next Fall, and Tuesdays with Morrie. But what Ryan really enjoys is directing shows. He has directed The Outsiders, Blu, and, most recently, A Quiet End at The Weekend Theater. Ryan is also involved with other theater venues around town, such as The Community Theatre of Little Rock, where he directed The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!
